About Mark Walton
National Federal Business Director
As the National Federal Business Director for WSI PBG, Mark is responsible for fostering relationships with existing WSI client companies and establishing new partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical supply, capital equipment, diagnostic industries, and large and small supply chains desiring to increase their business within the Veterans Health Administration and Public Health (Indian Health Services/Federal Bureau of Prisons) markets. Mark also serves as WSI’s external industry consultant on matters related to federal government markets and direction. Somewhat unique, Mark achieved executive level successful careers in both VHA and industry and brings decades of strategic program and HR leadership to establish WSI as the standard premiere Federal Government Promotion Partner.
In VHA, Mark served as both Chief, Pharmacy of a large teaching Medical Center and VISN leader in the largest VISN in the country (often being referred to as VHA’s first VPE) where he played an active role in the planning and implementation of numerous national programs, ranging from Inpatient and Outpatient EMR, CMOP, national formulary, Professional Standards Board following pharmacy entry into hybrid Title 38, facility design/implementation, automated dual VISN data performance matrix systems and Educational Affiliations program overseeing national pharmacy residency slot assignment. He was the first to successfully negotiate a comprehensive pharmacy contract with Florida State Veterans’ program which influenced a change in VHA national directive. Expertise in assignments beyond VHA Pharmacy ranged from back-up to Medical Center COOs, CEOs and other disciplinary departments, during periods of absence. This experience significantly contributed to multi-system working knowledge in most of VHAs most sophisticated, complex internal processes, including VHAs largest purchasers and related decision-making processes.
In Industry, Mark led multiple industry leadership teams in Lab Diagnostics, Medical Supply, Capital Equipment and Supply Chain to assure manufacturing, sales, marketing and other divisions were aligned. He brings hands on past and present experiences to WSI to successfully navigate industry to winning positions/promotion with VHA national formulary, MSPV catalog, NX Equipment Listing, RFP/RFQ response, B2B contracts (including the big 5 VHS PVs, Indian Health, small business), and related contracting opportunities with experience in winning large sole source awards.
Mark has served in various capacities with many Colleges of Pharmacies, one Medical School and developed ASHP approved Pharmacy Residency Program, each providing corresponding appointments as required,
Mark graduated from Ole Miss Pharmacy School and achieved a Master’s in Health Administration .
